Frustrated mediocre architect Andrew takes his wife, tycoon Conrad's daughter Charlotte 'Charlie', for whom he left his New York career, to her family's isolation country lakeside cabin for the weekend. On the way, they nearly run over ex-con drifter Jacob and take him along. During a boat trip, the gun he's found to have in his backpack gets accidentally fired and lost. In the cabin, tensions and hidden agendas become obvious, leading to a tragic climax.

Review :
A thriller that's more than worth the ticket price
I was fortunate enough to see this film in the St. Louis International Film Festival on Friday 13. Local critic Joe Williams is quoted as saying that this flick will come to be known as the "sleeper hit of the fest." I couldn't agree more. The endeavor Carolyn Miller has accomplished with Under Still Waters boggles the mind, especially for such a very small, independent budget. Each character shines and excellently delivers on every level. The pacing is perfect, the cinematography is spot on, and the writer obviously knows how to actually write well-defined and enjoyable characters.
Lake Bell has never been better. She is simply gorgeous and is supremely on her game as the stunning wife who likes to play mind games.
Jason Clarke is the perfect playboy husband who, though he could probably have any woman he wanted, loves his wife very much.
Then there's Clifton Collins Jr. Man oh man, I enjoyed his work in Star Trek and truthfully hadn't really noticed his work before then, but there's no way to peel your eyes from the screen every moment he's on it. As the mystery of his character unfolds, every second of the action is carried by his gifted performance.
Under Still Waters has only played a few festivals here in the states but already has foreign distribution. As of the screening, the producers are in currently talks with US distributors. I sincerely hope to see it make a theatrical run as there will be Oscar buzz for Mr. Collins Jr. for sure.
