nice, amusing comedy
I'm not quite sure what film some of the reviewers were watching when they heaped their venom upon this unassuming and cute little comedy,but it wasn't OUR GIRL Friday (aka ADVENTURES OF SADIE). Perhaps they were watching one of the several dreadful video versions available, or one of the severely cut versions. But if they had seen a nice, clear and complete version of this film I feel certain they would find in it, as I did, a pleasant diversion.
Lovely photography of Majorca (a clear video copy required to appreciate this!) coupled with some fun acting by all concerned make this an amusing story of men shipwrecked with the beautiful Joan Collins. Good humor situations and good dialog abound.
I'd term this a good snack/popcorn movie. Find that good, clear copy (rumor has it that, at long last, a decent DVD of it is about to be released) sit down on the sofa with your spouse and enjoy yourself. I can't think of a higher recommendation than that.

Good
A British film from 1953 starring Nigel Patrick as a racehorse owner and the beautiful Moira Lister as his wife Babs, this is a film about what happens after Gerald's (Mr. Patrick) horse wins the national. Babs, who doesn't seem to like horses much, parties in Liverpool without Gerald, thinks of divorce, drives home (without a license and probably a little impaired) and has a confrontation with her husband. A struggle occurs and she is killed. From there, the film becomes a detective story. This is where it gets more interesting, as the players in the film are questioned about certain aspects of their behavior. Not a long film (less than 80 minutes), it holds your interest from start to finish. Not essential, but a fairly good detective story/thriller.

Ted King, aided by Jack Janiero, is in charge of a company owned by Peter Merriman, reputed playboy, which he inherited from his father. Merriman decides to have a look at the company which is getting shells and pearls from the ocean's bottom. King discovers a body out in the ocean and brings it in, which sets off a police investigation into the possible smuggling of undesirable aliens into the area and they ask for King's help. Merriman arrives and falls instantly for King's daughter, "Rusty." He also shows them that the use of modern equipment can streamline the operation as well as save lives, which he does for King when he is trapped under the sea. When the smugglers learn King is on their trail, they take "Rusty" hostage, but King, Jack and Merriman, with the use of Merriman's aqua-lungs, follow and rescue her and capture the crooks and killers before the police arrive.

About making of King of the Coral Sea
This Movie was made on Thursday Island with a few scenes being shot in my Family's Pearling Business Store. I was 6 at the time, and interrupted a scene where Rod Taylor was being hit on the head as I thought he was being hurt. Some of it was filmed on Friday Island, my Father played a Policeman in it this was the only acting he did in his life being a local he was used as an extra.. Our boats and a lot of other stuff was used in the Movie. We have managed to get a copy from the Museum and is lovely to look back on. I don't really have a good memory of it only what I have been told by my Mother, we lived on top of the Pearling Store where they shot the Movie.

Quality British picture with strong performances
Underrated film, starring Jack Hawkins - long one of my favourite actors. There are some great scenes, not least that at the farm when the Merton character appears with a container of water for his car, immediately defusing an awkward situation with his friend being interrogated by two detectives. Watch out for character actor Edward Chapman, in a nasty role as an abusing stepfather.
