Review :

Falling in love is never easy, but it can be funny!

"Oil & Water" may not be re-inventing the wheel when it comes to romance comedy, but there are some truly humorous moments that make this film worthy of viewing. The premise rings familiar, but the execution ensures that a good time will be had by all. Peter Lavilla directs and leads a stellar cast with co-star Rosemary Gore, right on down to a notably funny performance by supporting actress Liane Wunderlich in the role of Liz, the make-up artist. I could do without the 'I love you/I hate you" tag line, but the movie develops beyond that concept into a story of of ballooned and delicate egos and the insecurity of falling in love in a world of classic Hollywood back-biting. Though the plot ultimately leaves a little more to be desired, it is the performances that kept this viewer tuned in and turned on. And as far as being a contemporary comic film goes, it gave me good old fashioned belly-laughs - as opposed to the forced reaction I feel many times to the stale, in-your-face comedies that prevail today.
